Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the Indian Armed Forces on the occasion of the 77th Army Day, commending their “powerful strength, valour, and selfless service” in safeguarding the nation’s security and integrity. Highlighting their exceptional professionalism and dedication, Singh noted that the Indian Army has brought unparalleled prestige to the nation on the global stage.
Army Day, celebrated annually on January 15th, marks a historic milestone in India’s military legacy. It commemorates the moment in 1949 when General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Army Chief of India, handed over command to Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa, the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Army. This year’s celebration is themed “Samarth Bharat, Saksham Sena” (“Capable India, Empowered Army”).
In his address, Rajnath Singh extended heartfelt wishes to the soldiers, officers, and their families, recognizing their unwavering courage and dedication. “On this auspicious occasion of Army Day, I extend my heartiest greetings to all the brave officers and soldiers of the Indian Army and their families. This day allows us to salute their unyielding courage, valour, and selfless service for our security and national integrity,” he stated.

The Defence Minister emphasized the multifaceted role of the Indian Army, which goes beyond safeguarding borders.
